Sensational Catch at Short-Leg of Abdullah Shafique
On Day 4 of the first Test match in Galle, Pakistan’s Abdullah Shafique completed a sensational catch at short-leg. He made an incredible one-handed grab to eliminate Sri Lankan batsman Sadeera Samarawickrama. It is regarded as one of the best catches by a fielder in that position.
Shafique took a stunning catch in the 56th over, putting Sri Lanka at 175/6. The lower middle order then mounted a fantastic comeback, bringing the score to 279. The absolute highlight of the day was Shafiq’s excellent wrong-footed catch, which stunned the observers.
Agha Salman’s Delivery Met with Shafique’s Brilliant Fielding
Agha Salman bowled the fifth and last ball of the over. Samarawickrama moved confidently down the pitch but was stopped by the length. The ball struck the inner edge of Samarawickrama’s bat and flew dangerously close to the short leg. Shafique reacted quickly. He anticipated the trajectory and switched to the left quickly.
Samarawickrama stepped beyond his crease, further complicating matters. Fortunately for them, the ball swerved to Shafique’s right side rather than his left. Despite the odds, the 23-year-old displayed unrivaled skill and drive. He snatched the ball from mid-air with his right hand, exhibiting exceptional fielding ability.

Certain Pakistani supporters went beyond, comparing him to Sri Lankan icon Kumar Sangakkara in batting and India great Rahul Dravid in catching.
Pakistan had somewhat shifted the Galle Test in their favor by the close of the fourth day. They have seven wickets in hand and must win by 83 runs on the last day. They ended on 48/3 at stumps. Saud Shakil’s double century and Salman’s 83 runs were the highlights of their effort.
