IND vs SA ODI 1: Playing 11, Live Streaming, Pitch Report & more

Ind vs Sa Odi 1 will held on Ranchi.

On Sunday, IND vs SA ODI 1  will be played at Ranchi’s JSCA International Stadium. The Indian team aims to bounce back after a 2-0 whitewash in the Test series. Now, Indian coach Gautam Gambhir has to rely on the duo of Ro-Ko in a pressure situation.

It is absolutely the home team that is greatly strengthened by the return of modern greats Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. The batting lineup that had trouble in Tests is now stronger with their addition. India cannot afford to make a mistake when playing a confident South African team that is riding high after a historic Test victory.

For their part, the Proteas will try to maintain their momentum and pull off another upset in Indian soil. Everyone is watching to see how KL Rahul’s new Indian team will perform in this ODI series in the absence of Shubman Gill. India has three matches in the IND vs SA ODI series to get back on track. With the next ICC trophy in sight, it creates an essential platform for testing out new leaders, combining new players with returning veterans, and honing the team.

Kohli and Rohit Return to Lead India’s ODI Fightback

After a break, both Rohit and Kohli return to the ODI lineup, giving India’s batting order significant experience and stability. They have 84 ODI hundreds and 47,575 international runs between them. Particularly after South Africa won their first Test series on Indian soil in 25 years, their return couldn’t come at a better moment.

Rohit Sharma is poised to make history. In just 98 runs, he will join the elite group of Rahul Dravid, Virat Kohli, and Sachin Tendulkar as the fourth Indian batter to reach 20,000 international runs. His recent performance appears encouraging; he revealed that he still has plenty left in the tank by smashing an undefeated 121 against Australia in Sydney.

Leadership Under Pressure

KL Rahul is now the captain for this series. With regular captain Shubman Gill ruled out due to a neck injury and vice-captain Shreyas Iyer also sidelined, Rahul faces his biggest leadership test yet. The 33-year-old brings solid credentials to the role with 3,092 runs in 88 ODI matches at an average of 48.31, including seven centuries.

His temperament will be put through the wringer against a South African side riding high on confidence. Managing a squad without established all-rounders like Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel adds another layer of complexity. Rahul must strike the right balance between batting depth and bowling options while maintaining team morale at an all-time high.

Opening Slot Dilemma

Gill’s absence has created an intriguing selection conundrum. Who opens with Rohit? Ruturaj Gaikwad and Yashasvi Jaiswal are the two contenders.

Jaiswal already has opening experience with Rohit in a variety of formats and offers a left-handed option. Although he has only played in one ODI thus far, the 23-year-old stands for India’s future at the top of the order. In white-ball cricket, a left-right combination frequently works wonders, giving him an inherent advantage.

Gaikwad, meanwhile, has fought his way back after 16 months out of the national setup.   His recent performances speak volumes—201 runs in three innings against South Africa A and 514 runs from eight domestic innings at an average of 85.66. The Maharashtra batter is in great form right now.

Former cricketer Aakash Chopra leans toward Jaiswal getting the first crack. The management will likely view this series as an audition for Rohit’s long-term replacement, making every innings count for both youngsters.

IND vs SA ODI Squad 2025

India ODI Squad: KL Rahul (C), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, Rishabh Pant, Washington Sundar, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Dhruv Jurel, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Harshit Rana, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Prasidh Krishna, Arshdeep Singh.

South Africa ODI Squad: Temba Bavuma (C), Aiden Markram, Dewald Brevis, Nandre Burger, Quinton de Kock, Marco Jansen, Tony de Zorzi, Rubin Hermann, Ottneil Baartman, Corbin Bosch, Matthew Breetzke, Keshav Maharaj, Lungi Ngidi, Ryan Rickelton, Prenelan Subrayen.

South Africa’s Winning Momentum

With their tails up, the Proteas arrive in Ranchi. Their victory in the Test series was not only all-encompassing but also commanding. They defeated India by 30 runs in Kolkata and then crushed them by 549 runs in Guwahati, which was India’s massive defeat by run differential.

After a long absence, Temba Bavuma is back to lead the ODI team, giving their batting lineup more stability. Their options are further strengthened by Quinton de Kock’s presence behind the stumps. Aiden Markram, Tony de Zorzi, and Marco Jansen were among the players who showed promise during the Test leg and will continue to do so.

But Kagiso Rabada’s absence weakens their bowling attack. The poor attack could be a problem against a white-ball powerhouse.

IND vs SA ODI Schedule and Venues

The IND vs SA ODI series spans three matches across different cities. All games start at 1:30 PM IST.

  • 1st ODI: November 30, 2025 – JSCA International Stadium Complex, Ranchi
  • 2nd ODI: December 3, 2025 – Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium, New Raipur
  • 3rd ODI: December 6, 2025 – ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam

Head-to-Head Records

History favors South Africa in ODI encounters. The two teams have clashed 94 times, with the Proteas winning 51 matches compared to India’s 40 victories. Three games ended without results. India will aim to narrow that gap during this series.

IND vs SA ODI Live Streaming Details

Fans won’t miss a moment of the action. The IND vs SA ODI live streaming will be available on the Jio Hotstar app and website. All three matches will also be broadcast live on the Star Sports Network, ensuring comprehensive coverage across platforms.

Pitch Reports

Ranchi is no batting paradise. In only its sixth ODI, this venue has consistently shown its true colors as a slow, tricky surface that tests the best. Just one team has cracked the 300-barrier here, successfully defending it, while chases in the 270-280 range are far from straightforward.

The pitch tends to slow down, demanding smart cricket. Remember Washington Sundar opening the bowling? That tells you everything. While perfect weather is expected, the real game-changer will be the dew factor. If the dew holds off, you won’t go wrong by batting first and putting up a total.

But if it sets in, the chasing team will have a massive advantage. Before the coin toss, captains must weigh these points. Victory in Ranchi isn’t easily achieved.

Why This Series Matters

Beyond immediate bragging rights, this series serves multiple purposes. It offers selectors a chance to assess squad depth ahead of the five-match T20I contest that follows. Player workloads need to be managed, returning stars require reintegration, and form checks are crucial with the ODI World Cup two years away.

The dinner hosted by MS Dhoni at his Ranchi residence, where he personally drove Virat Kohli home, has already set the narrative rolling. The white-ball leg brings fresh energy and excitement after the Test setbacks.

IND vs SA ODI 1 Predicted Playing XIs

India: Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Tilak Verma, KL Rahul (c & wk), Washington Sundar, Ravindra Jadeja, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Harshit Rana, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh.

South Africa: Aiden Markram, Quinton de Kock (wk), Temba Bavuma (c), Tony De Zorzi, Matthew Breetzke, Dewald Brevis, Corbin Bosch, Marco Jansen, Lungi Ngidi, Nandre Burger, Keshav Maharaj.

The Road Ahead

As the IND vs SA ODI 1 showdown in Ranchi looms, the stakes are crystal clear. It is India’s proving ground. Rohit and Kohli are back. A wounded team seeks redemption. KL Rahul must lead from the front. The young guns have their chance to shine. The Proteas are riding a historic high. One team will seize the momentum. The other will be left searching for answers. The time for talk is over. Who will own the moment?
