New Zealand Dominates Day 2, India Faces Uphill Battle

India vs New Zealand 2nd Test Day 3 will be a most vital day for all Indian fans. New Zealand has already gotten the upper hand once again. Tom Blundell of New Zealand will try to get a half-century against IND and leads by 301 runs.

The second Test between New Zealand and India is heading for another drawn encounter after it fizzled out at 300 runs on Day 2. Captain and opener Tom Latham returned to sizzling form and put his side on strong terms with a strong start. Washington Sundar eventually took his wicket when Latham was ultimately dismissed for 86 runs off 133 balls, with 10 fours.

On Day 2, Sundar took four wickets, and his match tally now stood at 11. Sundar also accounted for Latham, Devon Conway (17), Rachin Ravindra (9), and Daryl Mitchell (18). Tom Blundell (30*) and Glenn Phillips (9*) were unbeaten as New Zealand ended their second innings at 198 through Thickets Avenue.

New Zealand Takes First Innings Lead, Santner Takes Seven-For

Earlier, New Zealand were bowled out for 259 in reply to India’s first innings 156. Shubman Gill (30), Virat Kohli (1), Sarfaraz Khan (11), Ravindra Jadeja (38), R Ashwin (4), Akash Deep (6), Jasprit Bumrah (0) were all dismissed by Mitchell Santner for the visitors, taking a seven wickets haul.

Meanwhile, Jadeja was the top scorer for the hosts, with 38 from 46 balls. New Zealand reached 259 in the first innings with half-centuries from Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra. Conway hammered 11 fours in making 76 off 141 deliveries.

Ravindra hammered a scintillating 65 off 105 deliveries, five fours, and a six, while Ravichandran Ashwin rested for the first match and chipped in with 27 not out from 14 balls. Sundar was the chief being for India’s bowling line as he took a seven-wicket haul.

Last Words

Blundell is close to a half-century, and New Zealand is still placed to claim a Test win, with India needing a miracle to close it out. Kiwi batters have dominated Indian bowlers, so the hosts will need a miraculous bowling performance if they are to restrict New Zealand’s lead.

To even hope for a total such a big total, India’s batting will have to fire on all cylinders. Unless things take a dramatic turn for the worst, it looks as though the series will come down to the final match between New Zealand and India.
