Jasprit Bumrah gets 14th five-wicket haul in Test and stamped his name alongside Kapil Dev in record books. Bumrah tied the record for most overseas by an Indian bowler, previously held by Kapil Dev. Recovering from a back injury, Bumrah’s fiery spell in England cemented his lasting impact on the game.

With 14 five-wicket hauls in Tests, 12 have come on foreign soil. Kapil Dev once stood alone with this milestone. Now, Bumrah stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the legend. His mastery over overseas conditions remains unmatched in recent years.

England has been particularly kind to Bumrah’s statistics. He claims three five-wicket hauls there, the most by any Indian bowler. Only Ishant Sharma (51) and Kapil Dev (43) have more Test wickets in England than Bumrah’s 42. The seamer’s precision and reverse swing make him lethal.

Since India’s 2024-25 home season, Bumrah has been the sole warrior of five-wicket hauls. He claimed three in Australia, showcasing his dominance. Only Anil Kumble and R Ashwin have had longer streaks without another Indian bowler stepping up.

Harry Brook’s Charmed Life Continues

Luck has smiled on Harry Brook far too often. In the past year, fielders have spilled 13 catches off his bat. No other batter has enjoyed such generosity.

Brook’s recent 99 at Headingley was a tale of salvation. He was dropped twice and even survived a no-ball dismissal. Fortune favored him, yet he fell uneasily short of a century.

His dismissal on 99 added him to an unwanted list. Brook became the 14th English batter to perish one run shy of a hundred. Jonny Bairstow suffered the same fate twice in 2017 and 2023. The cricketing gods can be cruel.

Prasidh Krishna’s Costly Spell

Prasidh Krishna took a forgettable outing at Headingley. His figures of 3 for 128 came at a staggering economy of 6.40. No Indian bowler has conceded runs so fast while delivering 120+ balls.

Only five bowlers in Test history have been more expensive under the same conditions. Krishna’s lack of control allowed England to seize momentum. Such performance at this level invites analysis.

Run-Fest at Headingley

The first innings at Headingley were a batter’s delight. India and England piled up runs at 4.38 per over. It marked the fourth-highest scoring rate in Tests where both teams had scored over 400.

The flat pitch and wayward bowling contributed to the carnage. Batsmen feasted while bowlers toiled without reward. Such high-scoring affairs test the patience of purists.

Bumrah’s Rise to Greatness

Bumrah’s journey from a T20 specialist to a Test great is remarkable. His unorthodox action once raised doubts about his longevity. Yet, he has silenced critics with relentless performances.

His ability to adapt across formats sets him apart. Whether swinging the new ball or reversing the old, he delivers. Bumrah’s consistency makes him India’s most potent weapon abroad.

Brook’s Mixed Fortunes

Brook’s talent is undeniable, but his support of luck is concerning. Dropped catches inflate his average, masking technical flaws. Sooner or later, his luck will run out.

His aggressive style wins fans. But his temperament separates good players from great ones. Converting starts into big scores remains his next challenge.

Krishna’s Uphill Battle

Krishna’s inconsistent spell exposed India’s lack of pace-bowling depth. With Bumrah and Siraj leading the attack, the third seamer’s role is crucial. Krishna must tighten his lines or risk fading away.

The Bigger Picture

India’s bowling relies heavily on Bumrah’s intelligence. Others must step up to share the responsibility. Meanwhile, England must capitalize on Brook’s form before luck deserts him.

As the series develops, these subplots will shape the narrative. Cricket, as always, remains a game of thin margins. Legends are made as heroes rise and their imperfections become apparent.

Bumrah’s rise continues. Brook’s luck lingers. Krishna’s struggles persist. The drama never ends in Ind vs Eng Test Day 3. Jasprit Bumrah gets 14th five-wicket haul and matches Kapil Dev’s Feat.
