Medvedev Defeats Alcaraz in Four Sets to Reach US Open Final
Daniil Medvedev outlasted reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz in the US Open 2023 semi-finals. He set up a confrontation with Novak Djokovic in the finals. He beat Alcaraz 7-6, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 to go to the US Open final this year. This final is a replay of the top clash in 2021.
Medvedev only had a 57% first-serve rate compared to Alcaraz’s amazing 83% first-serve percentage. Despite this, he could force a tie-break and emerged victorious, 7-3.
As soon as the second set began, Medvedev swiftly established a 3-0 advantage. The set ended with a score of 6-1 thanks to his domination despite Alcaraz’s attempts to mount a comeback.
Medvedev’s Experience Prevails in Close Match
Alcaraz refused to admit defeat, though. In the third set, he flipped the script on Medvedev, saving two break opportunities and taking advantage of his mistakes to win the set 6-3. A thrilling fourth set was set up as a result of this triumph, which gave the game fresh life.
Both players put up a hard battle for every point in the fourth set. Early in the set, Russian star broke Alcaraz’s serve, giving him the upper hand. Despite many breakpoints, Medvedev maintained his composure and served out the match, winning the fourth set 6-3.
Medvedev Seeks Retribution Against Alcaraz After Wimbledon Semifinal Upset
The Russian wanted retribution against the Spaniard after the latter had earlier this year upset him in the Wimbledon semifinals.
Before Friday’s encounter, Alcaraz enjoyed the advantage in their head-to-head meetings, but things are now even. The Russina wants to repeat his winning performance against Djokovic in the 2021 US Open final when he won the match in straight sets.
