Newcastle Sign Harvey Barnes for £38 Million
According to AFP, Newcastle secured Harvey Barnes from Leicester on July 23 for a reported 38 million pounds ($48 million). Harvey Barnes signed a five-year deal with Newcastle.
The deal ensures his continued participation in the EPL. Leicester was demoted to the Championship last year, but that doesn’t affect Barnes’ involvement in the EPL. Barnes Thinks He’ll Fit in Well with Style of Play
“It’s an amazing club and for me, it’s a massive opportunity to come and be involved in a successful team that’s doing exciting things, so I’m absolutely buzzing to be here,” Barnes said.
“I think it’s an attacker’s dream to come into a team like this; it’s high-paced, it’s physically demanding, but you can see the rewards of that with the chances and the goals scored, so I think I’ll certainty suit the style,” he also added.
Barnes Aims to Help Newcastle United Challenge for Trophies
Barnes is looking forward to the forthcoming UCL season with excitement after Newcastle finished in the top 4 of the EPL the previous year. Newcastle also made it to a domestic final for the first time since 1999, but they fell to Manchester United in the League Cup final. Barnes has played 187 games for Leicester.
He played in one game for England against Wales in 2020 and helped them win the FA Cup in 2021. Newcastle’s second high-profile close-season signing, following the £52 million purchase of Sandro Tonali from AC Milan.
Aston Villa Sign Moussa Diaby for Club-Record Fee
Reuters reported that on July 22, Aston Villa confirmed their signing of French midfielder Moussa Diaby from Bayer Leverkusen. The fee for the transfer remains unknown. British media expects that the 24-year-old player will sign a five-year contract with Villa.
The club will pay 41 million pounds ($53 million) for the transfer. Previously, there were reports tying Diaby to a move to Saudi Pro League team Al Nassr.
Diabi joined Leverkusen in 2019 and has scored 49 goals in 172 appearances. He was Leverkusen’s leading scorer the previous season, with 14 goals in all competitions.
Villa has added Diaby to their squad for the close-season. The club has also acquired Youri Tielemans and Pau Torres, making the roster more experienced for the Europa League campaign.
