Bologna striker Zirkzee emerges as a target for Manchester United in January transfer window
Bologna striker Zirkzee is in target of Manchester United for the upcoming January transfer window, according to Sport1 in Germany. The Red Devils are looking to bolster Erik ten Hag’s attacking options and have identified a new central striker as a priority signing.
Earlier this month, reports emerged that United had opened talks with Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy, who has been in prolific form this season with 17 goals in the Bundesliga so far.
According to Sport1, Manchester United has shifted its focus away from Guirassy and is now exploring alternative options, with Zirkzee emerging as a potential target.
The 22-year-old Dutch forward has impressed in Serie A this season, scoring eight goals in 19 appearances for Bologna so far. He has also caught the eye with his performances for the Netherlands under-21 team, where he has netted seven goals in 19 games.
Zirkzee’s form has reportedly attracted the attention of several clubs, including Manchester United. The Red Devils need a new striker following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer, and Zirkzee’s age, potential, and recent form could make him an attractive option for ten Hag.
However, any potential move for Zirkzee would likely be complicated because Bayern Munich has a buy-back option on the striker. Bayern sold Zirkzee to Bologna for €8.5 million last year, but they have the option to repurchase him for €22 million.
Manchester United are considering a formal offer for Joshua Zirkzee, the young Dutch striker whose impressive form in Serie A has attracted their attention as they seek to bolster their attack in the January transfer window.
Manchester United eye Zirkzee, but Bayern hold the Cards
Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee has emerged as a surprise target for the Red Devils, but Bayern Munich’s buyback clause and matching option could complicate their pursuit.
Zirkzee, who joined Bologna from Bayern in August 2022, has impressed in Italy, scoring eight goals in 19 appearances. His form has caught the eye of both United and Newcastle United, but any potential deal hinges on navigating Bayern’s influence.
The German giants retained a €22 million buyback option when selling Zirkzee, and they also secured the right to match any offer Bologna receives for the striker.
It means United, or any other interested club, would need to convince Bayern to either relinquish their buyback option or accept a transfer fee higher than €30 million, Sport1’s current valuation for Zirkzee.
With Bayern in a strong position, United face a potential bidding war if they truly want to land the young Dutchman. Newcastle, with their newfound financial muscle, could also pose a serious threat.
Zirkzee’s impressive form in Italy has drawn interest from several top clubs, with Manchester United and Newcastle United among those keen on the Dutch striker.
