India vs Pakistan to clash in Sri Lanka at Asia Cup 2023
Cricket fans have been looking forward to this year’s men’s cricket match between arch-rivals India and Pakistan. It slated the teams to play with each other at least twice throughout the calendar.
The countries will face off in the Asia Cup before meeting again in the ODI World Cup in October. The date and location of their match in the ODI World Cup are already established. However, the date and location of their encounter in the continental competition are still unknown.
Arun Dhumal is the current head of the Indian Premier League. He appears to have confirmed that the Indian team will face Pakistan. This will happen in Sri Lanka. This puts an end to suspicions and debates surrounding the Asia Cup schedule.
India to skip Pakistan leg of Asia Cup 2023
According to PTI, India has opted not to go to Pakistan for the 2023 Asia Cup and would instead play all of its matches on the island nation.
After meeting with Zaka Ashraf, the representative head of the Pakistan Cricket Board, BCCI secretary Jay Shah made the decision. According to Dhumal, Pakistan would host four matches in the continental competition, with Sri Lanka hosting the remaining matches.
“Our secretary met PCB head Zaka Ashraf and the Asia Cup schedule was finalized and it is on course as it was discussed earlier. There will be four games of league stage in Pakistan, followed by 9 games in Sri Lanka including both India versus Pakistan game and in case a third game if both teams play final” Dhumal stated to PTI.
India denies traveling to Pakistan for Asia Cup
He denied allegations in Pakistani media that India will pay a visit to the neighboring country, as their sports minister, Ehsan Mazari, had indicated.
“There was no such discussion held. Neither India is traveling to Pakistan nor our secretary will be travelling contrary to reports that have surfaced. Only the schedule was finalized” he stated.
The source states that there is a strong likelihood that India and Pakistan will play at Dambulla, Sri Lanka. This is much as they did in 2010. They will play only one game between the underdog team Nepal and Pakistan in Pakistan. The last three games will have Sri Lanka taking on Afghanistan, Bangladesh taking on Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan taking on Bangladesh.
The Asia Cup is taking place on the continent for the first time since Bangladesh last hosted the regional event in 2016. Since then, the United Arab Emirates has hosted both editions (in 2018 and 2022).
