Chelsea Continues Pursuit of Moises Caicedo
According to transfer specialist Ben Jacobs, Chelsea has continued its pursuit of Moises Caicedo “despite a lack of progress in negotiations” recently, and they made expect a fourth proposal this summer. Brighton expects the player to remain at the club once the transfer market shuts.
Mauricio Pochettino, the recently named Chelsea manager, faces a massive task. The previous transfer windows saw foolish expenditure, resulting in an expected mass departure in this one because of the squad’s bloated nature. However, this has ripped apart the Blues’ midfield department, leaving them dangerously short in that area of the field.
Arsenal acquired Jorginho in January. This summer, Al Ittihad signed N’Golo Kante on a free transfer. Manchester City signed Mateo Kovacic, Manchester United signed Mason Mount, and AC Milan signed Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
Chelsea’s midfield options for next season
Chelsea has three main remaining options: Enzo Fernandez, Conor Gallagher, and Carney Chukwuemeka. However, the latter has also been earmarked for a loan exit.
Pochettino has been impressed by young Andrey Santos in pre-season. Additionally, they have signed 19-year-old defensive midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu from Rennes. Nevertheless, Chelsea will still be in the market for a more familiar option in midfield this summer. Pochettino reiterated their need for experience in the engine room.
Chelsea are actively trying to sign Caicedo from the Seagulls this summer. He had a stellar breakthrough campaign and played 37 Premier League games last season. He was also part of Ecuador’s squad for the World Cup in Qatar, where he scored against Senegal.
Brighton holding out for £100 million
Chelsea has made three failed offers for their main target. The most recent bid was £80 million. Brighton feels the 21-year-old talent is worth more than £100 million and is using Declan Rice‘s recent deal with Arsenal as a reference point in their discussions.
The Seagulls will lower their asking price, provided Chelsea agrees to allow Levi Colwill to transfer in the opposite direction. Levi Colwill, an England Under-21 international, impressed during his loan stay on the south coast last season.
Chelsea may make fourth bid for Caicedo
Following Wesley Fofana’s injury, the Blues are wary to lose Colwill. They feel that the youngster has the potential to become one of the Premier League’s greatest center-backs. As a result, the West Londoners have compiled a list of potential replacements for Caicedo, and they may aim to sign Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams. They are not given up on Caicedo, though, and may make a fourth bid to test Brighton’s commitment.
Chelsea has not yet revealed exactly how much they will give. We’ll have to wait and see if their proposal can overcome the big valuation difference.
