New Zealand’s Strong Start
India was in great trouble at Hyderabad after New Zealand posted a challenging 402 to take a meaningful 356-run lead in the first Test match. But India’s batting unit, featuring the experience of Virat Kohli and Sarfaraz Khan, had other ideas.
A Solid Start
India got a promising start after a valuable 72-run partnership between Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal. Ajaz Patel dismissed the Indian openers, with the hosts at 95 for 2. It was a chunk of the game, and India required a positive partnership to keep them in it.
Take Charge: Sarfaraz and Kohli
In comes Virat Kohli and Sarfaraz Khan. The duo had come in at a crucial time and stabilized the innings immediately after coming together. We even witnessed Sarfaraz, known for his attacking prowess, along with Kohli, who has always been known for his resilience and determination, play some mature knocks, adding some brawn to the game.
India finally looked breathing life into its innings.
LIVE Score Updates of India vs New Zealand 1st Test Match Day 3, from Bengaluru:
Unfortunate Dismissal of Kohli
On what looked like heading for total control of the match, India lost its lone hope, Kohli, for 70 runs on the last ball of the day. For the hosts, it was a setback, but Sarfaraz remained undefeated on 70, with India poised to fight back in the final two days.
Conclusion
India is still trailing by 125 runs. On Day 3, they performed much better. Exactly, what India needed on Day 3 was the partnership between Virat Kohli and Sarfaraz Khan. That solid performance has provided the team with much-needed confidence.
India, therefore, will have to keep up this momentum on Day 4. The spinner then has to come out and try for wickets, but Indian batters should tackle this situation and put pressure on the Kiwi bowlers to get a substantial total. India has an opportunity to decide from that position if they can build an effective second-inning lead.
On Day 5, there will be all options on the table. If India can be dominant on day 4 and get a significant lead, they can try to knock New Zealand over and win. But if the Kiwi bowler shows dominance over Indian batting, then it will be a tense situation for Rohit & co.
The most important thing for India is to use up the momentum gained from Kohli and Sarfaraz’s partnership. On Day 4, a strong performance from India can put them right in the driver’s seat and take a vital step towards a Test match victory.
