KL Rahul ruled out from the third Test at Rajkot

BCCI’s recent press release regarding the third Test against England in Rajkot did not update Ravindra Jadeja’s fitness or potential availability for selection.

India’s batting lineup faces another setback as they also lost KL Rahul due to an ongoing injury issue that sidelined him for the second Test in Visakhapatnam.

Rahul’s absence was confirmed by the BCCI’s selection committee, which named Devdutt Padikkal as his replacement. The Karnataka batter, who replaced the injured Rahul, had been under consideration for the final three Test matches of the series.

However, his participation, like Jadeja’s, depended on receiving clearance from the BCCI’s medical team.

Jadeja sustained a hamstring injury during the first Test in Hyderabad. Rahul reported quadriceps pain after the match, leading to both players being sidelined for the subsequent game in Visakhapatnam.

Rahul’s recovery progress has been noted positively, but he remains unfit for the Rajkot Test. He will continue his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.

The statement from the BCCI indicated that Rahul is nearing match fitness, with his progress monitored by the medical team. However, the team anticipates his return for the final two Tests of the series. He aims to attain complete match fitness by then.

Meanwhile, uncertainty surrounds Jadeja’s availability, with no concrete update provided by the BCCI. His fitness status remains a matter of concern for the Indian team management as they prepare for the crucial third Test against England.

India in Limbo: Jadeja Joins Squad, Fitness Still Awaits Clearance

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently issued a press release regarding the upcoming third Test against England in Rajkot. However, the release made no mention of Ravindra Jadeja’s fitness status or his availability for selection.

Despite omitting this, the BCCI included Jadeja’s name in the “updated squad” with an asterisk, similar to when they announced the original squad for the last three Tests against Ben Stokes’ men. This asterisk indicated that participation is subject to clearance from the BCCI medical team.

In contrast to KL Rahul, who did not report in Rajkot for the third Test, a report from the Press Trust of India (PTI) revealed that Jadeja had joined the Indian squad. They had their first practice session for the match on Monday.

According to a senior BCCI source who spoke anonymously to PTI, “KL Rahul hasn’t yet reported in Rajkot. Ravindra Jadeja, the local boy, has linked up with the team. It has always been a matter of fitness, and the BCCI medical team still lacks confidence in his match fitness.

If Jadeja is indeed declared fit for selection, he will likely be included in the Indian playing XI for the third Test. It would mean that either all-rounder Axar Patel or leg-spinner Kuldeep Yadav will have to sit out.
