Suryakumar Yadav Ruled Out of Duleep Trophy Opener Due to Hand Injury

Suryakumar Yadav has been ruled out from the Duleep Trophy opener due to a hand injury he sustained in the pre-season match between Mumbai and teams invited for the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament in Coimbatore last week. He has been advised to rest and has gone to NCA for a check-up in Bengaluru. There is no update about it.

During the match affiliated with TNCA XI last week, Suryakumar Yadav, Mumbai’s highest run scorer in the previous season, did not participate in the second innings.

This was due to a hand injury he sustained while fielding on the third day. In an official communication at that time, the Mumbai team management reassured that the move was precautionary keeping in mind Kohli’s fixtures for the Duleep Trophy set to commence the new season.

The T20I skipper of the Indian cricket team, Suryakumar Yadav, also recently showed his interest in playing for the Test side.

Having not played any first-class cricket in over a year, Suryakumar made himself available for the pre-season Buchi Babu Tournament to find the form for red-ball cricket with India set to play 10 Test matches over the next five months, including the two-match series against Bangladesh starting from September 19 in Chennai.

Suryakumar, whose only Test so far came last year against Australia has been included in the India C team along with the captain Ruturaj Gaikwad who will be facing the India D team led by Shreyas Iyer in Anantapur.

India A and India B will also be in action in the other match of the opening round of the tournament to be held at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Recently, fast bowlers Mohammed Siraj and Umran Malik were withdrawn from the opening round of the Duleep Trophy due to illness.

The BCCI removed Ravindra Jadeja from the team without providing a valid reason. India B and C squads will be missing Siraj and Malik and instead, Navdeep Saini and Gaurav Yadav will be assigned the places of these two.
