Messi and Haaland lead the Ballon d’Or 2023 shortlist
Lionel Messi, a seven-time Ballon d’Or winner and one of the Ballon d’Or nominees in 2023, aims to secure his eighth title. Meanwhile, Erling Haaland, Manchester City’s goal machine and one of the Ballon d’Or nominees in 2023, hopes to win his first prestigious individual football award.
Argentina’s captain guided his side to victory in the Qatar World Cup in 2022. On the club level, he won the Ligue 1 title with Paris Saint-Germain.
Haaland helped Manchester City win a historic treble, and in his first season with the team, he scored 52 goals in all competitions. The Champions League, Premier League, and FA Cup were all won by Manchester City, while Argentina won the World Cup.
As a result, it is not unexpected that Manchester City and players from Argentina dominate the award shortlist.
Ronaldo left off the Ballon d’Or shortlist for the first time since 2003, and Aitana Bonmati frontrunner for Ballon d’Or Féminin
For the first time since 2003, five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo was left off the list. The frontrunner for the Ballon d’Or Féminin award is Aitana Bonmati of Spain.
She guided La Roja to their first-ever World Cup triumph while playing for FC Barcelona, and she also won the Champions League that year. It will reveal the winners during the Ballon d’Or event, which will be held on October 30 at Paris’ Theatre du Chatelet.
