New York Knicks Dominate Philadelphia 76ers Despite Embiid’s Return

The NBA Cup finished with the New York Knicks defeating the Philadelphia 76ers 111-99, marking Joel Embiid’s season debut.

Too close to call in their first group play game, the Philadelphia 76ers mostly played competitively before the Knicks built a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter and never looked back.

In the loss, Embiid had yet to play this season because of recovery from a knee injury and a three-game suspension but struggled. The former MVP, far from play fans are used to seeing from him, shot 2-of-11 from the floor to 13 points with three rebounds and five assists.

Meanwhile, new star Paul George had a good game with 29 points and 10 boards, and rookie Jared McCain again showed why he may be something special with 23 points.

The Knicks got a win-by-committee as six different players topped 10 points. Karl-Anthony Towns chipped in 21, and OG Anunoby had 24.

Embiid took the criticism back at him after the loss for his questionable showing in his season debut.

The 76ers, who lost to Brooklyn for the second straight game and fourth time in the last five, dropped to 2-8 on the year and are still looking for their first victory.

With the back of Embiid, Philadelphia fans hope things turn around, but Tuesday’s loss was not indicative of what Embiid will be able to provide. And of course, it will take time for Embiid to ramp back up after missing time, so there’s no reason he can’t return to being an MVP in no time.
