Sesko to Arsenal. It seemed like a done deal, a perfect match. But in the unpredictable world of football transfers, nothing is ever certain.
Could a last-minute curveball derail Arsenal’s plans?
Benjamin Sesko has reportedly made his preference clear, namely that he wants to join Arsenal. This revelation fuels the already burning rumors linking the talented striker with a move to North London.
As reported by Mirror, Sesko favors a switch to Mikel Arteta’s squad over other Premier League giants like Manchester United and Chelsea, despite interest from Italy. This strong preference creates a powerful incentive for Arsenal.

A History of Interest and a Potential Snag
Arsenal’s interest in Sesko isn’t new. They pursued him last summer, but the Slovenian international opted to remain at RB Leipzig for another season. A “gentleman’s agreement” was reportedly struck, allowing him to leave in the summer of 2025 for £60m. Leipzig intends to honor this agreement unless a massive offer arrives in January.
Growing Competition and a Shrinking Deadline
However, waiting until the summer might prove costly for Arsenal. Barcelona has now entered the race, although their financial constraints could be a significant fight. The emergence of another serious contender underscores the urgency for Arsenal to act. The window of opportunity to secure Sesko’s signature is rapidly closing.
Exploring Other Options
Arsenal is actively exploring other attacking options. Nico Williams of Athletic Bilbao is on their radar, but his hefty wage demands, exceeding £300,000 per week, are proving a serious hurdle. Juventus forward Dusan Vlahovic and Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres have also been considered.
Injury Crisis Adds Urgency
The injury crisis has heightened the need for attacking reinforcements. A hamstring tear currently sidelines Bukayo Saka, and Gabriel Jesus faces a season-ending knee injury. These absences have left a significant void in Arsenal’s attacking line.
Arteta’s Stance
He acknowledged the need for reinforcements, particularly given the current injury situation. “We don’t currently have them. As I mentioned earlier, we are continuously searching for the ideal option. However, we’ll need to wait and see what we can manage,” Arteta stated.
Arteta didn’t discuss specifics player’s profile. He said he needed some help because he lost two effective front-line players.
The Clock is Ticking
The situation is simple. Sesko prefers Arsenal, but the club faces increasing competition and a limited timeframe. The January transfer window presents a crucial opportunity for Arsenal to secure their target and bolster their squad for the remainder of the season. Whether they can capitalize on this opportunity remains to be seen.
