Aston Villa Signs Nicolo Zaniolo on Loan from Galatasaray
Nicolo Zaniolo, Italy midfielder, joins Aston Villa on a one-year loan from Galatasaray, the Turkish Super League winners. The clubs announced the signing on Friday. The transfer cost is five million euros ($5.43 million).
Monchi, Villa’s transfer coordinator, is familiar with Zaniolo, having signed him for Roma in 2018. Unai Emery is desperate to find a replacement for Emi Buendia, who suffered a catastrophic knee injury during training last week. Buendia is likely to be out for most of the season.
Villa would pay an additional 22.5 million euros ($24.45 million) plus 15.5 million euros in potential add-ons to make the transfer permanent under the “conditional compulsory purchase option,” Galatasaray stated in a statement.
Subject to a successful visa application, the 24-year-old joins Villa as the Premier League club’s fourth first-team signing of the summer.
Buendia ruled out for up to eight months with a knee injury
“I’m grateful to have been a part of this beautiful family,” Zaniolo stated on Instagram. “Together we have proven that when you are united, nothing is impossible. Lions family you are now a part of my heart and I promise I’ll never forget that,”
For Emi Buendia, Unai Emery sought protection. During last week’s training, Emi Buendia suffered a severe knee injury. He’ll likely be sidelined for a substantial portion of the season due to the injury.
Zaniolo joins Pau Torres, Youri Tielemans, and Moussa Diaby in Unai Emery’s Team
Nicolo Zaniolo, who won the league with the Istanbul team last year, made his debut with AS Roma in his own country. With them, he won the UEFA Europa Conference League in 2022.
Zaniolo earned the Serie A Young Player of the Year award for 2018-19. He secured this recognition by delivering outstanding performances during his debut season in the Eternal City.
Pau Torres, Youri Tielemans, and Moussa Diaby are the other new faces in Unai Emery’s team, along with Zaniolo, who has 13 caps for Italy.
