Hardik Pandya–Arshdeep Singh Trade: Who Benefits More, MI or PBKS?

Hardik Pandya trade talks between Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings are advanced but not final, and neither franchise has confirmed a deal.

Reports say Punjab could send Arshdeep Singh and wicketkeeper-batter Vishnu Vinod to Mumbai in return. Rajasthan Royals have also been named as another option for Hardik. A source told PTI that both sides are keen but that it is “not a done deal yet”. You can follow each step on our IPL 2027 retention and auction tracker.

Hardik Pandya trade latest news: is the deal done?

No, the Hardik Pandya trade is not confirmed. PTI reported on November 3 that Punjab are in “advanced talks” with Mumbai. Many outlets carried that report, so it counts as one source and not many. Sportstar reported that Hardik is likely to join Punjab, with Arshdeep and Vishnu Vinod going the other way.

Some words need care here. “Reported” means an outlet has quoted its sources. “Advanced talks” means the two sides have moved forward. “Agreed” means both teams have said yes. “Confirmed” means the IPL or a franchise has made it official. The deal is at the second stage.

An IPL trade needs three things. The franchises must agree, each player must consent, and the governing council must approve the move.

The BCCI has moved the retention deadline to November 17. Reports say the mini-auction is on December 16 in Goa. That leaves both teams about two weeks.

Who could change teams in the Hardik Pandya–Arshdeep Singh trade?

Three players are in the reported package. Hardik would go from Mumbai to Punjab. Arshdeep and Vishnu Vinod would go the other way.

PlayerCurrent teamPossible new teamStatus
Hardik PandyaMumbai IndiansPunjab KingsReported talks
Arshdeep SinghPunjab KingsMumbai IndiansReported talks
Vishnu VinodPunjab KingsMumbai IndiansReported talks

The money needs care. Hardik’s reported value is ₹16.35 crore. Punjab paid ₹18 crore for Arshdeep with the Right to Match card at the 2025 mega auction. These are salary figures, not transfer fees. No report says either side would add cash.

Vishnu Vinod is the quieter name. He would give Mumbai another wicketkeeper. For Punjab, he is a squad player, so he is easier to give up in a bigger swap.

Why do Punjab Kings want Hardik Pandya?

Punjab want Hardik because their bowling failed in 2026. They won six of their first seven matches. Then the attack began to leak runs.

Punjab gave up seven totals of 200 or more in their first ten games. That equalled the IPL record for one season. They later went past it, with nine. Their own batters crossed 200 ten times, so the weak spot was clear. They finished fifth on 15 points and missed the playoffs. A source told PTI that Ricky Ponting and Shreyas Iyer want to fix the bowling at the auction.

Hardik could help by bowling seam overs. He could also bat at No. 5 or No. 6 and finish innings. That might free a place for one more specialist bowler.

Captaincy is not part of this. Iyer stays on as captain, and the source said Hardik would join “only as a player”.

Why do Mumbai Indians want Arshdeep Singh?

Mumbai want a front-line Indian fast bowler, and Arshdeep fits that need. Reports say Mumbai prefer a bowler over a batter or a spinner in any Hardik deal. Arshdeep bowls left-arm, and he is India’s leading wicket-taker in T20Is.

He could share the new ball with Jasprit Bumrah. They would bowl from different angles. In the last five overs, the two could split the work, depending on the match and the batters in.

Mumbai would also lose Hardik’s overs. Arshdeep does not replace everything Hardik did. Mumbai would still need a sixth bowler or another allrounder.

Why are Mumbai Indians considering Arshdeep Singh over other trade options?

Mumbai can use a bowler more than they can use another batter. Their batting is already deep. Reports list Rohit Sharma, Ryan Rickelton, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Sherfane Rutherford, Naman Dhir and Will Jacks.

Their bowling was thinner. Mumbai finished ninth in 2026 with four wins in 14 games. Allah Ghazanfar led their bowlers with 15 wickets.

That is why Rajasthan’s reported offer may not fit as well. Reports say Rajasthan could give Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ravi Bishnoi. Jaiswal is a top-order batter, and Bishnoi is a leg-spinner. Neither is the fast bowler Mumbai reportedly want. Rajasthan are also said to refuse to give up Jofra Archer.

Suryakumar is the other piece. An MI source told Cricbuzz, “SKY is not up for trade, and there have been no discussions, nor will there be.” So Mumbai keep their key batter and shop for pace.

Hardik Pandya vs Arshdeep Singh: who is worth more?

Both had a hard 2026, so the numbers point to risk on each side.

Category (IPL 2026)Hardik PandyaArshdeep Singh
Main roleSeam-bowling allrounderLeft-arm fast bowler
Batting206 runs at 22.89, strike rate 138.26Lower order
Bowling4 wickets at an economy of 11.4314 wickets at an economy of about 10.2
Reported value₹16.35 crore₹18 crore
Main riskFitness and bowling workloadForm and a high economy rate

Hardik’s 2025 was better. He scored 224 runs at a strike rate of 163.5 and took 14 wickets. Arshdeep has 111 IPL wickets and a best of 5 for 32. His 2026 was the weakest of his IPL career, though he was India’s second fast bowler behind Bumrah at the 2026 T20 World Cup.

Mumbai take less risk on paper, because a fit bowler is easier to plan around. Punjab have more to gain, but only if Hardik bowls.

Stats are from the IPL 2026 season and were checked on November 4, 2026.

How would the trade change Mumbai’s team?

Mumbai would gain a bowler and lose an allrounder. The new ball would no longer rest on Bumrah alone. That would ease the load on their best bowler.

They would have a gap in the middle order and in the overs Hardik bowled. Reports say Mumbai could also release Trent Boult, which would free a spot.

Here is one possible shape, based on 2026 squads and before any retention list is out:

SlotPlayer or need
OpenersRohit Sharma, Ryan Rickelton
Middle orderSuryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Naman Dhir
Overseas battersSherfane Rutherford, Will Jacks
Finisher and sixth bowlerOpen, since Hardik would leave
New ballJasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh
SpinAllah Ghazanfar
Backup keeperVishnu Vinod

This is a provisional XI. Mumbai’s real side will depend on who they keep and buy.

How would the trade change Punjab’s team?

Punjab would gain a finisher and a seam option. They would lose their leading wicket-taker. Someone must then bowl Arshdeep’s powerplay and death overs.

Punjab already have a left-arm quick in Marco Jansen. He and Arshdeep bowled in a similar style in 2026, and one writer called the attack one-dimensional. Hardik brings right-arm seam, which adds variety. Punjab still need another Indian quick.

SlotPlayer or need
OpenersPrabhsimran Singh (wk), Priyansh Arya
Middle orderShreyas Iyer, Hardik Pandya, Shashank Singh
AllrounderMarcus Stoinis, if he stays or Azmatullah Omarzai
PaceMarco Jansen, Lockie Ferguson(if he is retained), one more Indian pacer or spinner
SpinYuzvendra Chahal, Harpreet Brar

This is also provisional. Prabhsimran led Punjab with 510 runs in 2026. Reports say Stoinis could go to Lucknow Super Giants, with Mohsin Khan coming the other way. That would be a separate deal, and nothing is confirmed.

Who can replace Arshdeep Singh at Punjab Kings?

Nobody has been named. Punjab have three ways to fill the gap.

Marco Jansen. He is a left-arm quick who can open the bowling. But he and Arshdeep both went at over ten runs an over in 2026, so he needs help.

Mohsin Khan. Mohsin bowls left-arm, so he would cover part of Arshdeep’s job. His reported move is separate from the Hardik swap.

The auction. Punjab can buy an Indian pacer on December 16. They should wait for the final retention and release lists before choosing names.

The death overs are the hardest to fill. Arshdeep has done that job for years, and no one else in the squad has done it as often.

Hardik Pandya’s injury history and fitness concerns

Fitness is the biggest risk in this trade. PTI reports that Hardik has not played since the last IPL after repeated injury breaks.

DateWhat happened
June 10, 2026A fresh quadriceps strain ruled him out of the Afghanistan ODIs
June 20, 2026He was ruled out of the England ODIs after he failed to recover in time
September 19, 2026He picked up a fresh shin injury in a fitness test
September 26, 2026Scans led to rest, and he missed the Australia A series and the New Zealand white-ball tour

The key question is whether he can bowl enough overs. His 2026 economy rate was 11.43, so even a fit Hardik needs to improve. If he only bats, Punjab pay a high price for a finisher.

What about the other teams linked to Hardik?

Several teams have been linked to Hardik. Only Punjab look close.

Rajasthan Royals. Reports citing Cricbuzz say Rajasthan could offer Jaiswal and Bishnoi, but not Archer. Earlier talks stalled, and a November 4 report says they remain in the picture.

Kolkata Knight Riders. Mumbai reportedly asked for fast bowler Harshit Rana and a batter. Kolkata would not release their key players, and the talks did not move forward.

Lucknow Super Giants. Reports say Lucknow could offer Nicholas Pooran. Lucknow have also been linked with Suryakumar, but Mumbai have ruled that out.

Chennai Super Kings. Sportstar says Chennai were once in talks with Mumbai. No report shows those talks moving forward now.

Delhi Capitals. Cricbuzz reported that Delhi could offer Axar Patel. Nothing is confirmed.

What happens if the Hardik Pandya trade falls through?

If the deal fails, Hardik stays at Mumbai for now. Punjab would look for another allrounder at the auction, and Mumbai would look for a fast bowler. Either side could still try another trade before November 17. Trades like this often change shape late.

Hardik Pandya trade verdict

Mumbai would get a bowler they need, and they would keep their batting core. Punjab would get an allrounder, but only if he is fit.

Both players are coming off weak seasons. So each side is also buying a bounce-back. Mumbai look safer in this deal, and Punjab have more to gain. If Hardik returns to full bowling, Punjab win the trade. If he cannot bowl, Mumbai win it.
