India’s Challenge: Chasing a Modest Target Against New Zealand’s Positive Approach

India vs. New Zealand day 5 weather will play a vital role. Now, New Zealand wants to play positive cricket to speed up the first Test match. India hopes to copy previous triumphs to repeat the lowest fourth-innings total in test history. A super Test will be played at Chinnaswamy Stadium today.

Heavy rain after New Zealand’s innings began was enough to bring an end to the day’s play earlier on Day 4. Kiwi bowlers bowled out the Men in Blue for 462 runs, setting a target of 107 runs.

While that total seems modest — certainly when compared with the India target set by Sarfaraz Khan and Rishabh Pant — it is more than India at one point felt they could get and on the other less than what they would have been hoping for after that platform had been set.

For India, it was Sarfaraz Khan and Rishabh Pant who stepped up. It was Sarfaraz’s maiden Test hundred, and he went on to score 150 when he only played because of Shubman Gill’s injury. Pant’s counter-attacking innings turned the tide in India’s favor, but the left-hander’s innings came to a tragic end as he fell just one run short of his century.

Kohli’s 9000-Run Milestone as India Stumbles in New Zealand

Virat Kohli and Sarfaraz Khan had put up a 136-run standoff 163 balls before that. Virat Kohli (70) was bowled round the stumps, nearly extinguishing the Indian cricket fans’ hopes, on the last delivery of Day 3, but it was never to be.

William O’Rourke and Matt Henry picked up three wickets apiece, Ajaz Patel picked up 2, and Tim Southee and Glenn Phillips each took one.

After Yashasvi Jaiswal (35) and Rohit Sharma (52) were bowled out, Virat Kohli and Sarfaraz Khan put up 136 runs off 163 balls. But Virat Kohli (70) was caught by Blundell of the last delivery by 49th over, bowled by Glenn Phillips. Stumps were declared on DAY 3, with Sarfaraz still batting at 70.

Ajaz Patel accounted for 2 more wickets for New Zealand, while Glenn Phillips notched up one. On DAY 3, Kohli finished with 9000 Test runs in 197 innings. He has a Test batting average of 48 and recorded his highest Test score without being dismissed on 254. He also has 29 centuries in his name.
