The Phoenix Suns Edge Clippers in Overtime Thriller to Open Season

The Phoenix Suns got off to a good start in the 2024-25 season with a 116-113 overtime win over the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday.

However, it wasn’t the prettiest night for the Suns’ stars, who just had enough to get it done against a still-great James Harden and a Clippers team without Kawhi Leonard while he continues rehabilitating a knee injury.

Phoenix’s Kevin Durant scored a game-high 25 points and seven rebounds, while Bradley Beal had 24 points. Booker struggled in the first half to no avail, though he shot his way to 15 points before fouling out.

But at the crescendo, unlike in say, the final of the 2016 NBA Finals, Durant proved he’s still able to hit clutch shots, splashing one with under 30 seconds remaining to tie the game up and ultimately dispatch the game into overtime.

The battle was tight, back and forth in overtime, when James Harden had a chance in the tight battle to tie with less than five seconds left with a make at the line. The Suns put the game away after he missed the second free throw and hit the first.

Fans prayed all season long when the Suns picked up a win in Game 1, hoping they could take care of business in the first game of a long year. Something about an overtime thriller in the season opener is a good place to start things off, and the Suns took advantage on Wednesday.
