Hannah Wilkinson’s goal gives New Zealand’s first-ever Women’s World Cup victory

Hannah Wilkinson, ecstatic after scoring in the FIFA Women’s World Cup, celebrated by banging her chest and rushing to the corner flag.

In the second half, Hannah Wilkinson scored the game’s first goal. On Thursday, New Zealand defeated Norway 1-0 to claim its first-ever Women’s World Cup victory. A gunshot in downtown Auckland only hours before the match startled the host country.

New Zealand opened the scoring against world No. 12 Norway in their first encounter. On Thursday night, the Football Ferns stunned Norway with a 1-0 victory at Eden Park. Three minutes into the second half, a goal was scored.

Hannah Wilkinson scored a goal for New Zealand at the World Cup in 2011. In 2015, he also scored for New Zealand in the World Cup. She scored yet again on the largest platform in 2023.

The experienced attacker scored from close range, sliding the ball past goalkeeper Aurora Mikalsen. Jacqui Hand on the right was handed the ball by Indiaph-Paige Riley.

To give New Zealand a fairytale start to their home World Cup, Hand ran down the wing and sent a ball to Wilkinson, who maintained her calm and scored with the first shot on target in the game.

The 42,137-strong audience gave Hannah Wilkinson a standing ovation when the game came to a finish, and afterward, they replaced her.
