Manchester United to restart pursuit of Rasmus Hojlund
Manchester United will restart their pursuit of Atalanta forward Rasmus Hojlund, according to Calciomercato. Inter goalkeeper Andre Onana has agreed to join the club.
United has designated Hojlund as their primary striker target, and the club is now ready to resume talks with Atalanta about a possible deal.
During the summer, United approached Atalanta regarding their desire to acquire the 20-year-old Hojlund for €40 million (£34 million). However, Atalanta has now set their asking price to €70 million (£60 million) for Hojlund.
United Show Restraint in the Transfer Market
The Red Devils have been careful with their expenditure throughout the summer transfer window. They have demonstrated a reluctance to pay exorbitant fees for any of their transfer targets.
Chelsea allegedly offered more than £70 million for Mason Mount, but United successfully negotiated a fixed fee of £55 million. They also agreed to £5 million in difficult add-ons.
United reached an agreement with Inter Milan to purchase Onana for £51 million. However, by smart negotiating, they could reduce the upfront payment to £43 million, with an extra £4 million in incentives.
Ten Hag could help Hojlund reach his full potential
Based on this, United is unlikely to pay £60 million for Hojlund. We expect the club will make repeated bids in the coming days to negotiate a lesser worth for him from Atalanta.
To become an excellent center-forward, Hojlund, a striker with enormous talent, must improve his consistency in front of goal. He can do this with the correct supervision.
Erik ten Hag had a strong reputation at Ajax for developing young players and grooming them into world-beaters. The prospect of working with the Dane should thrill him.
Last season, Hojlund had 16 goals and seven assists for both Sturm Graz and Atalanta.
