Real Madrid Target Yassine Bounou to Replace Injured Thibaut Courtois

Real Madrid is considering Sevilla goalkeeper Yassine Bounou as their first pick to replace the injured Thibaut Courtois. According to ESPN’s Rodrigo Faez, the club is looking into alternative options owing to the likely hefty cost of acquiring the Moroccan international.

Madrid has also approached David de Gea and Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa, but according to ESPN, Bounou is the favorite choice for manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Courtois tore his left ACL during a training session, and Madrid said on Thursday that he will have surgery soon. Courtois will be out for six to seven months, according to sources who spoke to ESPN.

Will Real Madrid Be Able to Lure Yassine Bounou Away from Sevilla?

In 2019, Bounou moved from Girona to Sevilla and has since established himself as one of La Liga’s top goalkeepers. The 32-year-old was also instrumental in the Andalusian club’s two Europa League triumphs. He also played a significant role in Morocco’s run to the World Cup semifinals in Qatar the previous year.

Madrid faces a challenge since Sevilla is aware of the stellar reputation of its goalie. If Madrid wants the goalie to depart, Sevilla won’t make it simple for them. Bayern Munich attempted to sign him during the current transfer window but was unsuccessful since Sevilla informed them of the asking price.

According to sources who talked with ESPN, Florentino Perez, the president of Madrid, and Jose Castro, the president of Sevilla, have already begun talking. To begin talks, Jose Castro requested more than €30 million ($33 million).

De Gea and Kepa on Real Madrid’s Radar as Bounou Alternatives

Madrid wants to meet Sevilla’s expectations, but if they can’t acquire Bounou, they also have De Gea and Kepa as possibilities. After his deal with Manchester United expired this summer, De Gea, who was nearly signed by Real Madrid in 2015, is now a free agent. But not everyone at the Santiago Bernabeu supports him.

Madrid reportedly had a prior interest in Kepa, according to sources. They will try to set up a loan agreement if they decide to pursue the Chelsea goalkeeper.
