IPL 2024 Season Overview
The IPL 2024 season is approaching, scheduled to start in three months. In February/March next year, 10 teams will compete in the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League.
The cricket world eagerly anticipates the biggest tournament, spanning two and a half months or 74 days. Preparations for this event are currently underway. The retention process took place today, and it has released the list of retained players. The IPL 2024 auction, a mini-auction, has already concluded.
Joe Root’s Absence Impacts Rajasthan Royals
At the time of retention, Rajasthan Royals received a major blow as their star batsman and wicketkeeper, Joe Root, withdrew from IPL 2024. He will be absent for the entire tournament, confirming this decision in a statement. Joe Root stated that he would not be available to play for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL.
Ben Stokes, an all-rounder with Chennai Super Kings, has declared that he will not participate in the upcoming season. Following suit, Joe Root, another England batsman, has also withdrawn from the upcoming IPL season, making him the second player to do so after Ben Stokes.
The Rajasthan Royals confirmed that Joe Root did not play. Kumar Sangakkara, the director of Royals, stated that they need to replace another player for the IPL 2024 season as retention is about to start. He commented that the team’s lack of presence is noticeable.
Rajasthan Royals (RR) selected Joe Root in the IPL 2023 auction at his base price. It marked his debut in the IPL. Unfortunately, his performance was not impressive, having played just three matches and batted in only one inning. He managed to score only 10 runs during that inning.
