Sri Lanka Aims to Make Up for Missed Chance in WTC

Up until March, Sri Lanka was in the running for the World Test Championship title. Its motivation to get there in the coming cycle has been stoked by that. In 16th July,2023, it will play the first of two tests between Sri Lanka and Pakistan at Galle.

“We had a pretty good campaign in the last World Test Championship and at one point we had a chance to make it to the finals,” Skipper of Sri Lanka said. “We would have liked to finish things off better but our last series in New Zealand didn’t go the way we want. But this is a new opportunity and we are looking forward to the challenge.”

Shaheen Afridi Returns to Test Cricket After Knee Injury

After missing a year of tests because of a knee injury, Pakistan’s left-arm fast Shaheen Afridi is back. The visitors had high expectations for him. Afridi got four wickets in the first innings of their match last season at the same venue between these two sides. However, when playing right field in the second innings, he seriously tore a ligament in his knee. Months later, during the T20 World Cup, he aggravated the injury. Pakistan was still successful in the first test but lost in the second. They’re doing the same thing again this year.

“Very pleased with the return of Shaheen Afridi,” Babar Azam stated. “Besides his wicket-taking abilities, his presence always motivates and lifts the side. I know Shaheen has badly missed red-ball cricket and is hungry for test cricket.”

Shaheen Afridi on the verge of 100 test wickets

Shaheen has 99 test wickets and is on track to become Pakistan’s fourth-fastest fast bowler to achieve 100 wickets.

Because he recuperated from dengue fever, seam bowler Asitha Fernando will be unavailable for Sri Lanka.

Kasun Rajitha and Vishwa Fernando will split the new ball. They have uncapped left-arm fast Dilshan Madushanka in their team, who wowed everyone during the Asia Cup last year. Virat Kohli was one of his victims.

Pakistan hopes for a better fate in Sri Lanka

The left-arm spinner Prabath Jayasuriya has an impressive record in Galle, with 46 wickets from five tests, including six five-wicket hauls. He will be Sri Lanka’s main weapon.

Both clubs have determined their starting lineups. Pakistan’s lineup includes 13 players who were in Sri Lanka a year ago.

The visitors will also hope for a better fate during the series. Pakistan has only won one of ten tests since the beginning of 2022. Despite this, Pakistan is ranked sixth in the world, one spot ahead of Sri Lanka.
