ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Schedule: Groups, Venues and Dates

Men's T20 World Cup 2026 Schedule is available.

The men’s T20 World Cup 2026 schedule is now available. Some of the best cricketers will miss the 10th edition of the T20 World Cup 2026, including big names like Rohit, Virat, Jadeja, Pooran, Klaasen, and more.

The 2026 T20 World Cup started with  20 teams in four groups. On the inaugural day, six teams will be in action, including defending champion India.

It lays out a month-long tournament that brings together 20 teams across India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8. The ICC announced the complete fixture list in November 2025, with matches spread across eight venues, setting up a competition that promises blockbuster clashes, tactical puzzles, and several challenging group stage battles.

This 10th edition marks a return to the subcontinent for T20 cricket’s biggest event. The T20 World Cup 2026 groups have been structured to maximize competitive balance while accommodating unique hosting arrangements.

The upcoming matches look exciting. India plays Pakistan on February 15 in Colombo. Meanwhile, Australia will take on Sri Lanka at Balagolla. Over in Group C, England faces a tough challenge from the West Indies and a Bangladesh team that’s getting better.

The tournament follows a familiar structure with four groups of five teams each. The top two from each group will advance to the Super Eight stage, which begins on February 21. Everything builds toward the final on March 8 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, though there’s a twist for Pakistan’s potential knockout matches.

ICC T20 World Cup 2026 Groups at a Glance

Here are the official ICC T20 World Cup 2026 groups, which set the stage for all the upcoming fixtures and tactical battles. The 20 teams are divided into four groups of five for the initial round-robin stage. The format remains the same as the 2024 edition, with a group stage followed by Super Eights and knockout rounds. Italy will be making its debut in the men’s T20 World Cup.

Why the Group Draw Matters?

In every tournament, the group draw ensures fairness. It prevents early matchups between top seeds. It also helps manage travel logistics. Lastly, it builds excitement among fans worldwide.

Now, Group A of the T20 World Cup 2026 is the centre of attention, mainly for the epic India vs. Pakistan clash scheduled for February 15 in Colombo. Both giants must be careful not to stumble against the tricky USA and experienced Netherlands, while Namibia‘s bowling attack also poses a threat.

Over in Group B, it’s all about spin, especially when Australia faces Sri Lanka in Pallekele on February 16. With strong teams like IrelandZimbabwe, and improving Oman, there are no guaranteed wins.

The excitement continues in Group C, featuring reigning champions England, who will need to quickly adapt to the Caribbean conditions against strong contenders like the West Indies, the dangerous Afghanistan, and the eager newcomers Uganda and Papua New Guinea.

Lastly, Group D presents another fascinating dynamic with South Africa, New Zealand, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Scotland all vying for those knockout spots, ensuring every match is a crucial battle for survival and momentum.

  • 2010: England
  • 2012: West Indies

  • 2016: West Indies
  • 2021: Australia

  • 2024: India

Why the 2010 T20 World Cup happened so soon (less than a year after 2009):

  • It was moved up to fix the schedule after the 2008 tournament was postponed.

What caused the long 5-year gap between the 2016 and 2021 T20 World Cups?

  • In 2016, the ICC decided to hold the event every four years instead of two.
  • Then, the planned 2020 tournament was postponed to 2021 due to COVID-19, making the gap even longer.

Why were there back-to-back tournaments in 2021 and 2022?

  • India hosted the postponed 2020 event in 2021.
  • Australia had already been scheduled to host the next event, which they did in 2022.
  • This put the tournament back on its planned even-year schedule (2022, 2024, etc.).
