Brazil Defeats Peru 1-0 in World Cup Qualifiers
Brazil in World Cup qualifiers for 2026 defeated Peru 1-0 Thursday in Lima (PER) in the second round. Marquinhos, the defender, scored the scoring 44 minutes into the second half with a deflection of Neymar’s corner at the first post.
Against Peru, Fernando Diniz’s squad struggled to generate scoring chances. Richarlison scored in the first half but was called offside by VAR.
The team fielded the same lineup that defeated Bolivia in its debut. Fernando Diniz elected to re-use his debut lineup.
On this FIFA date, Brazil played their final match. Next month, the team will face Venezuela in Cuiabá on October 12th and Uruguay in Montevideo on October 17th.
Brazil Struggles to Create Against Peru
In their debut, Fernando Diniz’s side suffered a crushing defeat at home to Bolivia, although they were inconsistent throughout the cycle. Brazil had tremendous problems against Peru at Lima, Peru in the second game under Diniz’s supervision.
Despite positive athlete feedback and a solid attacking performance against Bolivia, the squad failed to create opportunities against Peru.
The side of center forward Paolo Guerrero maintained possession better than the Bolivians and managed to draw even with Brazil on times. Éderson, on the other hand, did not fare well.
The squad committed multiple passing blunders, forcing the coach to yell instructions from the sidelines. Diniz insisted on the squad staying close on the ball side rather than spreading out over the field.
Brazil dominate possession but Peru defend well
Despite his discontent with several parts of the team’s performance, Diniz made little adjustments. He simply replaced Richarlison with Gabriel Jesus in the 18th minute of the second half.
Diniz made three substitutes towards the conclusion of the battle, bringing in Vanderson, Joelinton, and Martinelli all at the same time.
Brazil took the ball around the opponent’s area. Raphinha crossed for Richarlison, who was on the penalty spot, and he headed home. The high delivery to the number 9 made it difficult to head.
Brazil had the finest chance in the 44th minute of the first half, thanks to rapid touches on the right side. Raphinha passed to Rodrygo, who surpassed Neymar.
The number 10 finished powerfully and crossed, but Pedro Gallese, the Peruvian goalie, made a wonderful save.
Brazil vs Peru: Marquinhos scores the winner
The first chance of the second half came only in the 26th minute, with a shot from beyond the box. Brazil exchanged passes on the right midfield until Raphinha got space and took a chance from outside.
Marquinhos made it! Neymar took a corner kick after the first half, and the PSG defender headed it in to beat Pedro Gallese.
Richarlison, Brazil’s center striker, scored in the 28th minute of the first half. After going blank against Bolivia, he sobbed his way off the field.
Richarlison headed the ball into the net after Bruno Guimares crossed to the center of the area. However, after six minutes of review, the VAR judged Pombo offside.
Nervousness about scoring and frustration at his inability to score goals caused Richarlison’s tears. He departed the field in the 18th minute of the second stage to make way for Gabriel Jesus. He didn’t score a goal, but he also didn’t cry this time.
