Brighton Coach Roberto De Zerbi Takes a Jab at Chelsea

Brighton coach Roberto De Zerbi took a jab at Chelsea when discussing the potential transfer of Moises Caicedo. Chelsea is interested in signing Caicedo, but Brighton is opposed to the transfer. De Zerbi stated that they must find a fantastic replacement for Caicedo because they will participate in the Europa League, which Chelsea will not have this season.

De Zerbi: “We Have to Substitute Him with a Great Player Because This Year We Play in the Europa League, Unlike Chelsea”

“Caicedo stays with us until my owner changes his mind,” De Zerbi said. “I have no idea of what can happen in the future — but if Moises leaves we have to find the right player. We have to substitute him with a great player because this year we play in the Europa League, unlike Chelsea.”

Brighton Outperformed Chelsea Last Season Despite Spending Less

Despite not spending anywhere like what Chelsea spent, Brighton performed significantly better than Chelsea previous season. Brighton finished ninth in the Premier League, while Chelsea finished third. They also reached the semifinals of the FA Cup, while Chelsea were eliminated in the quarterfinals.

Will Brighton Be Able to Keep Caicedo?

They have ability to keep Caicedo this summer is uncertain. Chelsea is reportedly willing to pay a significant fee for the midfielder. However, they determined to keep Caicedo, and they may be able to use their participation in the Europa League as a bargaining chip.

Conclusion

The transfer saga of Moises Caicedo is likely to continue for some time. It will be interesting to see if they are able to keep the midfielder, or if Chelsea is able to lure him away. Either way, it is clear that De Zerbi is not afraid to take a jab at Chelsea, even if it means poking fun at their lack of European football next season.
