Liverpool to Target Goncalo Inacio in January After Summer Transfer Window Snub

According to Anfield Watch, Liverpool may contact Sporting CP in January to inquire about their 21-year-old defender Goncalo Inacio. The Portuguese star was on Jurgen Klopp’s radar in the summer, but the Reds had other priorities in the most recent transfer window.

Despite adding some well-known stars to their midfield, Liverpool had at best a modest window. The exits of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson weakened their center areas due to the loss of experienced personnel.

Liverpool Eye January Move for Left-Footed Centre-Back

The additions of Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister have strengthened the team. Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch, who joined before the window closed, also bolstered the squad. These signings compensate for the departure of experienced veterans.

Jurgen Klopp might not have enough time to secure a new defender with the focus on midfield. Liverpool is the only top-six team lacking this type of player. Klopp wanted a left-footed center-back to bolster the backline.

Liverpool’s Center-Back Transfer Dilemma: Experience or Youth?

Nayef Aguerd of West Ham has drawn interest from Liverpool, but it’s not obvious if signing him would be a wise long-term investment. The team may be thinking about bringing in young players for that position.

Liverpool has expressed interest in Jorrel Hato of Ajax, but signing him would carry risk due to his youth and lack of experience. Klopp is looking for a guy who can join the first team right away and compete at the top levels.

Liverpool to make January move for Goncalo Inacio

Liverpool allegedly intends to make a deal for Goncalo Inacio in January and is still interested in the player. The 21-year-old defender Inacio was aware that Liverpool were interested in him over the summer, but he chose to sign a new contract with Sporting. His release clause was originally £33 million but is now £51.5 million (€60 million).

Given his age and expertise, the price for Inacio seems fair, but Liverpool is infamous for haggling over such issues. Moreover, rumors claim that Liverpool has allocated £60 million for a new defender in the upcoming transfer window, which may help them in their pursuit of the 21-year-old Sporting CP defender.

In the long run, Inacio may take the position of the rather sluggish Virgil van Dijk in Liverpool’s defense. The 21-year-old defender is certain to get a lot of attention from clubs, so Liverpool should act swiftly to close a deal in January.
