How Indian Fast Bowling Evolved Over Five Decades
Indian fast bowlers underwent a dramatic transformation over five decades. The 1970s and 1980s relied primarily on swing and seam. Kapil Dev’s leadership changed everything fundamentally. He showed India could produce genuine pace.
The 1990s began with the technical discipline through the Srinath-Prasad partnership. They bowled tirelessly on unhelpful pitches. Young Indian fast bowlers learned consistency from them.
The 2000s introduced variety and balance. Zaheer, Agarkar, and Nehra provided right and left-arm combinations. They mastered swing bowling in all conditions. India started winning overseas matches regularly.
The 2010s focused on fitness and consistent performance. Ishant and Shami were strong for many years. The upcoming Indian fast bowlers set higher standards. Winning overseas became normal, not a big surprise.

For over fifty years, Indian fast bowling has been a discipline as challenging as wushu. We changed from a team that relied on spin to one that focuses on speed.
