It saw tremendous modernization and increased appeal throughout the mid-twentieth century. Rubber balls replaced softer balls in earlier editions as the favored choice.

The first Dodgeball World Championship took place in Kuala Lumpur in 2012.

How to play Dodgeball game
Organize the players into teams
Collect all the players and split them into two equal teams. You can have as few as four players or as many as you like, but try to balance teams for a fair game.
Prepare the game environment
Make a large enough playing area for participants to roam about freely. You can use a gymnasium, an outdoor field, or any open place with well-defined boundaries. To properly define the playing area, use cones or tape to mark the borders.
Arrange the dodgeballs in the middle
Place an equal number of dodgeballs in the center of the playing area. Teams will determine the number of dodgeballs and the desired intensity level. The number of dodgeballs will be based on team size and intensity preferences. You may usually begin with six to ten dodgeballs.
Begin the game
Make the players stand behind their respective team’s boundary lines. When you’re ready, start the game. Players are free to walk about within their team’s zone, but must not venture outside of it.
Collect the dodgeballs
Players rush to the center at the start of the game to grab the dodgeballs. They can collect as many dodgeballs as they like, but they must return to their side of the playing area to throw them.
Start throwing the dodgeballs
Players throw dodgeballs at the opposing team members to eliminate them from the game. To remove an opponent, a player must knock them below the shoulders with a thrown ball. When a player catches a thrown ball, it eliminated the thrower instead of the catcher.
Prevent being struck
Players move quickly and with agility to avoid being struck by dodgeballs thrown at them. They can use their teammates as shields, ducks, or dodge. If a dodgeball hits any player during the game, the player is disqualified and must leave the field.
Bring back the eliminated players
The eliminated player leaves the field of play and waits on the sidelines. One of their teammates must successfully catch an opponent’s tossed ball to re-enter the game.
Finish the game
Play until one side has eliminated all the other team members. The game will continue until one team eliminates all members of the other team. Both teams must actively take part in the game to win.

Tournament: Dodgeball World Championships
The World Dodgeball Federation (WDBF) hosts the Dodgeball World Championship.
It has held the competition yearly since 2012. While foam was the sole format used in previous editions, starting in 2022, it would play the Dodgeball World Championship in two categories: foam and cloth.
In the 2012 foam category, Hong Kong won the Men’s title, and Canada won the Women’s title. COVID-19 delayed it until 2020-2021.
The United States took the lead in the women’s foam category. Malaysia and Canada fought fiercely, but could not surpass the United States.
During the Mixed foam category competition in 2022, Canada won for the first time, and Austria won for the first time in Mixed cloth. Great Britain won the men’s cloth category. Austria won the women’s cloth category.
