An Se Young Makes History

An Se Young of South Korea created history by winning eight BWF World Tour championships in a single year. On September 10, 2023, she beat Akane Yamaguchi in the China Open 2023 women’s singles championship.

She won with a score of 21-10, 21-19. Yamaguchi is a two-time world champion. An Se Young is the World No. 1 in women’s singles.

A Chinese shuttler named Chen Yufei previously held the record after taking home seven BWF World Tour victories in 2019. An Se Young achieved history by winning the gold medal in the BWF World Championships 2023. She is the first Korean woman’s singles player to accomplish this feat.

After winning the China Open 2023, a BWF Super 1000 competition, An Se Young has now claimed victories in two of the four BWF Tour events held at this level.

An Se Young’s undefeated streak since Indonesia Open

Only the World Tour Finals are more prestigious than a BWF Super 1000 tournament on the BWF World Tour. Winning both the All-England Championships and the China Open in a single year is an amazing achievement. Also, finishing second in the Malaysia Open is impressive.

The Chinese shuttler, Han Yue, defeated the Korean shuttler in the quarterfinals of the 2023 China Open, the only game she lost in the whole event. She’s trying to complete the undefeated streak since the Indonesia Open in 2023, a goal.

An Se Young aspires to surpass Kento Momota’s record of 11 BWF World Tour victories in a calendar year. To win her first gold at the World Championships this year, she earlier upset three-time world champion and gold medallist from the Rio Olympics Carolina Marin.

Youngster already among badminton’s all-time greats

The shuttler, who is 21 years old, will be the early favorite to win the individual championship at the Asian Games in Hangzhou.

Her inclusion in the team increases the women’s team’s chances of winning a medal in the team competition. The illustrious prodigy has already established herself as one of the best athletes of all time, joining Susi Susanti, Carolina Marin, Han Aipeng, and many more legends in the future years.
